Uses
Sofosbuvir is used in combination with other antiviral drugs for treatment of patients with viral infection that damages the liver (Hepatitis C) including those patients who have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection or liver cancer or are awaiting a liver transplant.
How it works
Sofosbuvir is an antiviral drug that belongs to a class of medicines called nucleotide polymerase inhibitors. It inhibits an enzyme RNA polymerase which is essential for viral replication and thus decreases the amount of Hepatitis C virus in the body thereby resulting in less liver damage and improved liver function.
Common side effects
Chills, ulcers, sores, nausea, pale skin, lower back or side pain, trouble sleeping., unusual tiredness or weakness, diarrhea, fever, muscle pain/ cramps, mouth ulcers, skin rash/ itching, decreased appetite, headache
