Uses
Nevarapine is used to treat and control Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) infection for adults, adolescents, and children of any age. It must be used along with other HIV medicines.
How it works
Nevirapine belongs to a class of anti-HIV medicines called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Reverse transcriptase is an enzyme that HIV needs in order to multiply. Nevirapine stops reverse transcriptase from working, and thus helps control HIV-1 infection.
Common side effects
increased blood pressure., decreased blood phosphorus, fatigue, coughing, raised, nausea, Very common: rash.Common: granulocytopenia hypersensitivity, abdominal cramps, arthralgia, urticaria pale red, breathlessness, abdominal pain, itchy skin rash), vomiting, noisy respiration, liver toxicity .Uncommon: anaemia, hepatitis, angioedema swelling of eyes and lips, diarrhea, fever, Stevens-Johnson syndrome / toxic epidermal necrolysis, myalgia, sneezing, headache, jaundice
