Uses
Pyridostigmine is used to treat neuromuscular disease characterized by very weak muscles and unusual tiredness (myasthenia gravis), paralytic ileus and postoperative urinary retention, reversal of neuromuscular blockade.
How it works
Pyridostigmine belongs to the group of medicines called parasympathomimetics. It acts by inhibiting the enzyme called as acetylcholinesterase and thus allows free transmission of nerve impulses across the neuromuscular junction.
Common side effects
loss of movement in any part of your body, weak or shallow breathing, Common: stomach pain, sweating, vomiting, cough with mucus, fainting.Frequency not known: extreme muscle weakness, low blood pressure, slurred speech, urge to vomit, loose motions, twitching, irregular heartbeat, vision problems, rash, or worsening or no improvement in your symptoms of myasthenia gravis., increased salivation, muscle cramps, or blurred vision
