Doxycycline is an antibiotic medicine belonging to the class called tetracyclines. It is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. It does not treat viral infections, such as the common cold. It is used in the same way that other antibiotics are used as a preventative measure in case of exposure to Anthrax.
Doxycycline exactly as directed by your doctor. It is taken orally with a full glass of water. It is best to take it on an empty stomach, but you may take it with food if your stoamch becomes upset.
Doses should be taken at regular intervals and not more often than directed. Do not take it just before going to bed. It may not dissolve properly when you are lying down and can cause ulceration of your food pipe. Take all of the medicine that has been prescribed for you even if you think your condition is better.
