Zitromax (Azithromycin Dihydrate) is prescribed to treat bacterial infections. This medicine is a type of macrolide antibiotic which works by targeting the bacteria responsible for the infection, preventing them from producing essential proteins, which leads to the eventual destruction of the bacteria. Physicians may prescribe this antibiotic to treat sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia as well as various other types of bacterial infections such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, typhoid, skin infections, ear infections, and various other infections which are not listed here. It must be noted however, that this drug will not work on viral infections.

There is a possibility that taking this medication for a prolonged period of time may cause a yeast infection or oral thrush.
