    Valacyclovir is used for l treatment of viral infections of skin, mucus membrane, genitals and eyes caused by herpes virus including cold sores (blisters on and around your lips) and shingels (painful rashes usually in the form of a strip of blisters). It is also used for treatment of recurrent genital herpes infections, to treat chickenpox in children.

    How it works

    Valacyclovir is an antiviral drug and belongs to class called synthetic nucleoside analogues. Once ingested, valacyclovir is converted in the body to active form acyclovir. It  works by blocking the viral DNA replication a process essential for the virus to grow and multiply. It thus stops the virus from spreading in the body.

    Common side effects

    feeling agitated, raised, vomiting, symptoms of severe mental disorder ; swelling of eyes and lips ; kidney functioning problems, disease effecting structure and function of brain, unconscious state, itching of skin .Uncommon: abnormally low count of white blood cells that can increase chances of infection, problems with speech, abnormally low count of platelets in blood that can affect blood clotting ; confusion, uncontrolled shaking, fits, seeing or hearing things that are not really there, decreased consciousness, loose motions ; dizziness; skin rashes including sensitivity of skin to sunlight, drowsiness; breathlessness ; abdominal discomfort; pale red, Very common: headache.Common: urge to vomit, itchy skin rash ; lower back pain ; reversible increase in liver enzymes that affect liver function tests .Rare: unsteady movements, kidney failure ; severe life-threatening allergic reaction .
