Common side effects
gastro-intestinal bleeding, irritability, electrolyte disturbances including sodium retention with oedema and hypercalcaemia, nausea, male-pattern baldness, weight gain; increased bone growth, cholestatic jaundice, changes in libido, excessive frequency and duration of penile erection, paraesthesia, vomiting, asthenia, Frequent or persistent erections may occur with mesterolone. The drug should immediately be stopped in such cases to avoid injury to the penis.Stomach/abdominal discomfort or pain, precocious sexual development and premature closure of epiphyses in pre-pubertal males, depression, gynaecomastia, hypertension, acne, pruritus, polycythaemia, anxiety, seborrhoea, arthralgia; androgenic effects such as hirsutism, prostate abnormalities and prostate cancer, muscle cramps, suppression of spermatogenesis in men and virilism in women; rarely liver tumours., headache, nervousness
